I dette blogginnlegget skal vi forklare hva en autoimmun sykdom er, gi eksempler på autoimmune sykdommer og forklare hvorfor slike sykdommer utløses.

Hva er en autoimmun sykdom?

En autoimmun sykdom er en sykdom som gjør at kroppen går til kamp mot seg selv.

Autoimmune sykdommer utvikles når immunsystemet, som normalt beskytter kroppen mot sykdom, bestemmer seg for at friske celler er fremmede, dvs. immunsystemet angriper friske celler.

Antistoffer som kommer ut av kontroll

De mest vanlige autoimmune sykdommene forårsakes av at forsvarsceller (kalt lymfocytter) produserer auto-antistoffer, som er stoffer som kan angripe andre celler i vår egen kropp. Vanligvis holdes produksjonen av slike stoffer nede, men ved spesielle situasjoner eksempelvis en infeksjon, som gir en betennelsesreaksjon (inflammasjon) i kroppen, vil produksjon av antistoffer komme ut av kontroll og dermed oppstår en form for autoimmun sykdom.

Diagnosering av autoimmun sykdom skjer ofte ved å identifisere antistoffet som kroppen produserer uten noe grunn.

Eksempler på autoimmune sykdommer

Alt i alt finnes det ca. 80 typer autoimmune sykdommer. Det er interessant å merke seg at det er hele 75% kvinner som får en av disse. Autoimmune sykdommer gir periodevise bedringer og forverringer, så dagens behandling er ikke å kurere sykdommen, men skape stabilitet og med mindre ubehag.

Navn på noen av dem:

  • Multippel sklerose (MS)
  • Revmatoid artritt (RA)
  • Morbus Crohn
  • Ulcerøs colitt (også kalt inflammatory bowel disease=IBD på engelsk)
  • Type I diabetes
  • Psoriasis
  • Lupus

Hvorfor oppstår slike sykdommer?

Litteraturen forteller oss at autoimmune sykdommer kan være utløst av:

  • Bakterier/virus
  • Medikamenter
  • Hyperreaktivitet (overfølsomhet for kjemiske stoffer)
  • Miljøirritanter (for eksempel kjemikalier)

Nyere studier har sett på tarm-bakterie floraen til pasienter med revmatiske sykdommer.  Det kan tyde på at de har en annen bakterieflora sammenlignet med en normalt frisk tarm. Om dette kan være årsak til autoimmune sykdom eller ett resultat av sykdom vet man fortsatt ikke og det blir spennende å følge den videre forskningen på dette feltet.

Genetiske faktorer spiller en rolle for utvikling av inflammatoriske autoimmune sykdommer og det er antatt at kost og levesett er viktige pådrivere for sykdommen i kombinasjon med andre faktorer som er nevnt ovenfor. Kost og levesett kan være utløsende faktor når en i tidligere alder er blitt eksponert for bakterier/virus etc.

Ut fra det vi vet om utbredelsen av autoimmune sykdommer er det etter vårt skjønn stor sannsynlighet for at kostholdet har stor betydning for utvikling av disse sykdommene på en eller annen måte. Både med tanke på type mat og mengde.

Det som forsterker et slikt syn er:

  1. Voldsom økning av autoimmune sykdommer i de siste tiårene
  2. Høy forekomst i vestlige land (unntak Middelhavslandene)
  3. Lav forekomst i den østlige verden og utviklingsland

Det som kjennetegner den vestlige dietten er:

  • Høyt fett inntak (spesielt mettet fett)
  • Høyt inntak av sukker (som omdannes til mettet fett i kroppen)
  • Høyt karbohydratinntak og bruk av mye salt
  • Hyppig konsumering av «fast food» og ofte i store mengder

Dette er med på å øke kroppsvekten og utvikling av metabolsk syndrom (en forstyrrelse i kroppens omsetning av næringsstoffer), hjerte- og karsykdommer som igjen kan henge sammen med utvikling av autoimmune sykdommer. Kombineres dette med mangel på fysisk aktivitet så blir det trøbbel for kroppen. Overvekt med høy fettprosent er etablert risiko-faktor for autoimmune sykdommer.

Stress i tillegg til en usunn livsstil kan øke risikoen for betennelser i kroppen og autoimmune sykdommer. Det som kan skape stress for kroppen er alt fra hektiske dager på

jobben, røyking og negativt tankespinn av ulik karakter. En livsstil med dårlig mat, høyt stressnivå og lite aktivitet er verste kombinasjon for slike tilstander.

      Hei Paul Martin, det var veldig hyggelig å høre 🙂 Litt forklaring rundt effekten du kjenner: Olivita har i følge mange tilbakemeldinger gitt meget bra effekt på RA pasienter i tillegg også pasienter med Bechterev hvor smertene i leddene er blitt helt eller delvis borte. Dette kan sees i sammenheng med at leddvæsken hos RA pasienter har et økt innhold av mikropartikler fra blodplater (beskrevet i artikkel i Nature, 2010). Disse mikropartiklene ansees å være pro-inflammatoriske og en viktig årsak til inflammasjonen i leddene. Mekanismen kan være at ved at Olivita hemmer blodplateaktivering forhindrer den også at blodplatene genererer mikropartikler (betennelseskomponenter). Det siste er kjent fra litteraturen. Dette antas å være årsaken til Olivitas gunstige effekt på autoimmune sykdommer som Chrons sykdom, Ulcerøs kolitt, Multippel Sklerose (MS), Sjøgrens syndrom m.m.

        Hei Irene og mange takk for hyggelig kommentarer! Jeg er ikke overrasket over at du merker bedringer i kroppen etter å ha begynt å innta Olivita oljen for den har svært mange gunstige effekter og ikke minst på blodsirkulasjonen som kan være noe av forklaringen på at du merker såpass rask endring i beina og ødemene. Det er helt greit at du prøver ut dobbelt dosering særlig i den første tiden og så kan du se om du trenger det over lengre tid. Det er interessant at ditt blodsukker nå er normalt men regner med at du har et kosthold uten altfor mye raske sukre som vi kaller den sukkertypen som gir størst svingninger på blodsukkeret. Selv om vi aldri har gjort studier på om Olivita virker gunstig på vekta så har vi svært mange som har kommentert at Olivita gir faktisk vektreduksjon til tross for at 2 spiseskjeer inneholder ca 135 kcal. Teoretisk sett stemmer dette for Olivita har en meget god effekt på å redusere inflammasjon (betennelsesreaksjoner) i kroppen og det er velkjent at stress/inflammasjon er sterkt medvirkende til vektøkning.

        Det er helt greit at du tar Extra Virgin olivenolje i tillegg til Olivita for vi vet at hovedkilden for fett i Middelhavsdietten er olivenolje. I middelhavsbefolkningen er det anslått at hvert individ inntar mellom 25 og 50 ml olivenolje pr dag (råolje og den som blir brukt i matlaging). Studier av befolkningsgrupper så vel som laboratoriestudier har gitt holdepunkt for at inntak av «jomfruolje» (kaldpresset olivenolje) gir gunstig effekt ved flere sykdomstilstander. Dette skyldes ikke bare det høye nivået av en-umettede fettsyrer, men ikke minst at olivenoljer er rik på antioksidanter som eksempelvis fenolforbindelser. Dette er også en av grunnene til at Olivita oljen har så mange positive effekter som vi mener er mediert via nedregulering av betennelsesreaksjoner i kroppen.
